Swedes are the world’s fifth most happy people according to the 2013 UN World Happiness Report.
The Danes were the world’s happiest while Norwegians came second. The least happiest people were in the west African nation Togo. Switzerland and the Netherlands came third and fourth.
In 60 of the countries surveyed people were significantly happier than last year when the first such UN report was published. In 41 countries people were less happy.
“The world had become a little bit happier and more generous over the last five years,” wrote the authors of the report.
The report measures happiness using a combination of factors including GDP per capita, healthy life expectancy, freedom from corruption, and generosity.
