Picky Swedes dump a thousand tonnes of shrimp
Swedish fishers dump an estimated 1,000 of shrimp in the sea in order to maximise profits, reports Swedish Radio News. The Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management is analysing these figures.

Shrimpers have a quota for how much they can catch. It is forbidden to throw back poor quality shrimp in order to get a more valuable catch.
The Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management thinks that it is far more common for shrimpers to break this law, than for other fishers. “There’s an economic incentive to only keep the bigger ones,” says Ingemar Berglund.
The University of Agricultural Science estimates that more shrimp may be thrown back than ends up in the kitchen, since Swedes are only content with the very best shrimp.
