Sunny weather in store in northern Finland
A high-pressure front will bring clear skies and sunshine to many parts of Finland this week, according to Yle meteorologist Henriikka Heikinoja, with highs of 25 degrees Celsius expected on Tuesday.
The week began with sunny spells across the country on Monday morning, although rain showers and thunderstorms are expected in the south and southwest later in the day.
The Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) has issued a heavy rain warning for the southwest region, valid from 11am until 7pm.
“Flooding expected in flood-prone underpasses and low-lying areas. Risk for aquaplaning in road traffic,” the warning states.
Temperatures on Monday will range from 18 degrees Celsius in the south to 19 degrees in Finnish Lapland.
Up to 25 C in North
The sunny and warm conditions are expected to continue into Tuesday, Heikinoja said, with temperatures in the west and north of the country forecast to hit 25 degrees Celsius.
Rain showers and a thunderstorm are also expected in the southwest on Tuesday, and central areas will see scattered spells of rain.
The fine weather will also continue into Wednesday, Heikinoja predicts, with clear skies expected across the country.
“It looks really sunny in central areas and in Lapland,” Heikinoja said, adding that temperatures will hover around 20 degrees Celsius in most parts.
