NATO scales up presence in Baltic Sea to protect undersea infrastructure

NATO is launching a four-month operation to protect undersea infrastructure in the Baltic Sea, following a series of recent disruptions to data and power cables. (Paul J. Richards / AFP)
  • Nato is embarking on a four-month operation to protect critical undersea infrastructure in the Baltic Sea after a number of undersea data and power cables have been cut or disconnected in recent months.
  • According to Finnish public service broadcaster, YLE, ten Nato vessels will patrol near underwater energy and data cables from the end of this week until April.
  • The Swedish Armed Forces is considering its resources for how Sweden will contribute to the Nato operation, says press officer Jimmie Adamsson.
