Yellowknife RCMP say a woman is charged with vehicle theft and other offences after a tour bus was stolen early Saturday morning.

Police received a call at around 1:16 a.m. about a bus that had been stolen from a gas station after it was left running unoccupied, the force said in a news release issued Monday.

Officers found it in a parking lot less than an hour later and contained the vehicle.

The bus backed into a police vehicle before coming to a stop, they said.

Police say the driver was showing signs of drug impairment, so she was taken to hospital for a blood test.

The 39-year-old suspect is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, driving while impaired, driving with a suspended licence, and mischief under $5,000.

She was held for a bail hearing and subsequently remanded into custody.
