She has such an unforgettable face and she went through all the difficulties that an Asian woman possibly experienced in performing art area. But eventually she succeeded.
In 1971, Sandra was born in Nepean, a suburb of Ottawa, into the first generation of Korean immigrant parents. She started acting at age of 10. Despite receiving a full scholarship to the prestigious journalism program at Carleton University, Sandra chose instead to pursue her passion at the National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal.
Her first major role was in a TV film, The Diary of Evelyn Lau (1993), which earned her a Gemini Award nomination. She won a Genie Award for her role in Double Happiness the following year.
Other films she was in including Last Night (1998) and Sideways(2006). In 2005, she joined the cast of an American medical drama TV series Grey`s Anatomy, and her character, Dr. Cristina Yang, quickly became a darling of audiences and critics alike, winning a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors guild Award.
In 2011, Sandra Oh received a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame.
