Santa Claus Village in Arctic Finland attracts record number of visitors

Image: YLE / Sirkku SavusaloA record number of visitors have attended the Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, Finland in the Arctic Circle this year. The number of visitors is expected to the 330,000 mark for the first time.

Visitors have been recorded from at least 76 countries. Foreign visitors accounted for 85 percent of the total.

In addition to domestic visitors, tourists from Italy, Spain, Japan and Russia topped the list of those seeking a glimpse of Santa.

A record number of Russian visitors are expected next week at the village courtesy of 40 flights to Rovaniemi, not to mention car traffic, trains and buses.
