Finnish Lapland experiences record freeze
Record low temperatures have been recorded in Finland’s Arctic Lapland province, with the mercury plummeting to -36.1 degrees Celsius overnight. The Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) registered the new low at Kevojärvi in the municipality Utsjoki.
Second coldest temperature was at Kevo, with a temperature of -35.3 degrees Celsius.
Other locations in Finnish Lapland also experienced a serious cold spell, including Pokka in Kittilä (-34.9 degrees), Näkkälä in Enontekiö (-34.5 degrees) and Väylä in Inari (-34.4 degrees).
Also braving lows beyond -33 were Alamuonio (-33.6 degrees) and Kilpisjärvi’s town centre (33.5 degrees).
