Russian authorities are permitting a group of foreign consulate representatives aboard a Netherlands-registered Greenpeace ship being towed to Murmansk.

One of the arrested activists on the vessel is a Finnish citizen.

The Russian Coast Guard on Tuesday was providing transport to the vessel, the Arctic Sunrise, for consulate officials from the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, the United States, and Finnish consul Matti Ruokokoski.

The nearly 30 activists onboard were arrested after staging a protest at a Russian Arctic offshore oil platform last week and now could face piracy charges.

“Our task is to check on the condition of those onboard, whether they are healthy and how they are being treated,” Matti Ruokokoski told Yle around mid-day.
