Record November snow cover at village in northwest Finland

The 9:00 AM weather measurements released by the Finnish Meteorological Institute showed 80 centimetres of snow cover at Kilpisjärvi, a village  in Finland’s Arctic Lapland province.

This sets a new record for the month as the country’s snowiest spot.

The 80 centimetres of snow cover measured Tuesday at Kilpisjärvi passed the previous November record of 72 centimetres measured at Sodankylä in 1961.

Kilpisjärvi also holds the record for the deepest December snow cover, 126 centimetres that was recorded in 1975. The all-time national record of 190 centimetres recorded at Kilpisjärvi in April of 1997.
