Rare recording collection of Sami Joik given UNESCO status

- Karl Tirén’s collection of over a century old recordings of one the most iconic elements of Sami music, the Joik, has been designated UNESCO Memory of the World status.
- Lund University’s Ravensbrück archive of testimonies of Nazi concentration camp survivors has also been recognised by UNESCO.
- Karl Tirén’s Joik recordings were made in the early 1900s and are today preserved at the Centre for Swedish Folk Music and Jazz Research.
