  • The EU has granted “protected designation of origin” status to kaffeost, a cheese typically enjoyed in hot coffee in the north of Sweden.
  • The initiative came from local cheese-makers who wanted to preserve a piece of their food heritage.
  • Producers hope the recognition will boost pride at home and maybe even draw more curious visitors to the region.
