GloriaUluqsi will be the new president of Nunavut Tunngavik Inc., winning the election with 19.6 per cent of the votes cast.

Uluqsi beat nine other candidates to take on the position and will remain in the role until December 2028.

Uluqsi is from Whale Cove and now lives in Iqaluit. She won 3,541 votes.

Interim president Paul Irngaut came in second place, with 2,633 votes.

Uluqsi previously told CBC News that as president she hopes to strengthen the communication between NTI and Inuit and listen to Inuit in communities.

The byelection was called after Jeremy Tunraluk resigned from his position earlier this year.

NTI also implemented a voucher program where those who voted received a $100 voucher.

The election this year had a voter turnout of 72.4 per cent.
