The safety authority is looking into possible shortcomings in regulations concerning the authorities and safety at the mine in eastern Finland. The investigation does not, however, touch upon legal responsibility.

The investigation aims to uncover the sequence of events, causes and effects, as well as probing rescue works and authorities’ actions at Talvivaara. Issues of leadership and monitoring will also be looked into.

The team aims to come up with measures to improve safety, and hopes to finish its work within one year.

The Ministry of the Environment has also launched an investigation into the disaster.
