Prices you pay for online shopping may depend on what companies can find out about you © Associated Press

More people seem to be purchasing things online.

However, what you and I pay for the same item from the same company may vary.

It seems that in some cases companies will charge you a price based on what they have learned about you and your financial situation and spending background.  That’s the news coming from a new study from Northeastern University in Boston, in the USA.  Lynn spoke with Carmi Levy, a technology analyst and writer with Voices.com

New research shows that company Boards of Directors, made up of CEO’s and other high-positions, tend to inflate compensation packages for new CEO’s in an expectation of getting the same treatment from their peers in the future. © iStock via CBC

If you follow the news, you have probably come across a story in which a company CEO’s salary was mentioned and were perhaps surprised by the size of that salary.

When you are hired for a job, the salary and compensation level is set by someone higher up in the company. For the people at the very top however, the CEO’s, their salary is set by a committee on the Board of Directors.

Statistics show that CEO salaries have risen much faster than the average salary. A couple of Toronto researchers looked into this and found there’s a human nature aspect.

The people who sit on such boards are in a relatively small elite group, and when they reward one member with a high salary, the expectation is that further along someone will reward them

Marc spoke to Fei Song an Associate Professor of Organizational Behaviour and Management at the Ted Rogers School of Management, Ryerson University in Toronto.

Montreal discusses whether to ban plastic bags © CBC

Plastic bags are convenient, but because of our own habits, they end up littering the landscape and clogging lakes and oceans where they can cause harm to wildlife.

The Mayor of Montreal, Denis Coderre, says he would like to ban plastic bags in the city.

A public discussion is underway in the city but is proving divisive.

Carmel spoke with Alex Tyrell, leader of the Green Party of Quebec who will be presenting a brief at the forum
