It’s called the Times of India Film Awards. It’s a new awards ceremony, and if not the Bollywood “Oscars”, it’s hoped that it will become a major event.
Several well-known stars have arrived in Vancouver already, with more expected to arrive today for the event which runs from April 4th to the 6th.
The Times of India already runs the annual Filmfare awards, which have been running since 1954 and are regarded as one the leading awards in the Indian film industry.

The British Columbia government contributed $9.5 million to help bring this new event to the city of Vancouver. Another $1.5 million is being spent on a BC-India business forum. Together the events are hoped to create $13-$18 million in spending in the province.

It’s thought that hundreds of millions will watch the event on television or follow it through the various Times publications
