RBC Painting Finalists

RBC’s Canadian Painting Competition is in its 15th year and today they announced the finalists for 2013.

The painters are selected in 3 regions of the country, 5 from Western Canada, 5 from Central Canada and 5 from Eastern Canada.  Almost 600 people entered and the work of six women and nine men was chosen.

This competition focuses on new painters in the early stages of their career.  Ann Webb, executive director of the Canadian Art Foundation and publisher of Canadian Art magazine, is the head of the nine-person jury.

The winner will be announced on October 2nd, at the National Gallery in Ottawa and the works will be on display at the gallery for two weeks.  First prize is C$25,000, second and third place will receive C$15,000 each, and in honour of this 15th anniversary, the other 12 finalists will receive C$5,000 each.
