Ai Weiwei installation at Toronto’s City Hall

Ai Weiwei is unable to leave China as his passport was confiscated, but his artwork is currently touring the world.

An installation unveiled this afternoon in Toronto will be turning heads until the end of October.  The only Canadian stop on the world-tour, Weiwei’s installation called “Circle of Animals – Zodiac Heads” was erected in the reflecting pool in the square in front of Toronto’s downtown City Hall.  The bronze sculptures of the rooster, the rat and the monkey, 3 of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac, sit atop bronze stands.

We’ll hear more this week about the exhibit opening soon in the Art Gallery of Ontario and why Weiwei is at the heart of Toronto this summer.
