Welcome to the first show of summer (well at least in the northern hemisphere) !
ListenThis week, I’m back with my colleagues Wojtek and Lynn to look at some of the important stories this week.

This week, we hear of a study from the University of Ottawa pointing out some serious concerns about what pharmaceuticals from the pills we take are having on aquatic life, fish and frogs and others.
It seems that when we take pills, there are not 100% absorbed by the body and end up in waste water and at the sewage treatment plants which are not designed to treat pharmaceuticals and other chemicals.
These end up in the lakes rivers and streams where fish etc absorb the chemicals which affects negatively affects their behaviour and metabolisms. We hear from Dr Vance Trudeau, respected worldwide for his research.

We often are very critical and even cynical about our politicians, and i suppose often with good reason, but with the western province of Alberta and the major city of Calgary suffering through massive flooding, their worst natural disaster in history., we have a story about one politician who has been shining.
Wojtek has a report on Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi, who has been going almost non-stop for over a week, as he helps co-ordinate recovery efforts and inform and re-assure citizens of his city during the state of emergency.

Then a love story, a big love story. and to spice it up, a little sex too.
In fact its called the “Moose Sex Project”. Its about an effort to bring more male and female moose together to increase the population in the east coast province of Nova Scotia.
We also will read some of the comments posted to various stories on our website…and by the way, wish us a happy birthday too. July 1st is Canada’s 146th birthday and big parties are planned in cities and towns across Canada with the biggest one taking place on Parliament Hill in the national capitol, Ottawa.
For reasons beyond our control, and for an undetermined period of time, our comment section is now closed. However, our social networks remain open to your contributions.
