ListenWelcome to the summer, in spite of some wacky weather, even disastrous in some parts of the country, it is summer in Canada.

This weekend will also see huge celebrations across the country as the nation celebrates its 146th birthday on Monday July 1st.

The biggest party of all takes place in the national capital, Ottawa, with the main stage set up in front of the Parliament Buildings. About 60-thousand people are expected to gather, which is about the maximum the parliament grounds can hold.

The weather forecast, so far, is good, and thousands more are expected at the two other official sites in the city, along with many other scattered smaller events in the downtown area.

It’s Canada’s 146th birthday and dozens of artists from across the country are scheduled to perform in afternoon and evening shows.

I speak to Guy LaFlamme, the Senior Vice-President, Capital Experience at the National Capital Commission (NCC). If you can’t make it to Ottawa for the show, it will be broadcast on domestic TV and radio (CBC) and arrangements are being made to carry it on the internet.
