Brenda Sayers visiting eastern Canada with FIPA challenge

Brenda Sayers, of the Vancouver Island Hupacaseth First Nation, is visiting eastern Canada to talk about her community’s challenge to the Canada-China trade agreement known as FIPA.

Brenda Sayer led a court challenge on behalf of First Nations, under section 35 of the Canadian constitution, which outlines the obligation to consult First Nations when legislative change is taking place.

The case was heard in the first week of June in Vancouver.  The judge said he would rule at the end of the August. Brenda Sayer will address a rally on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Sunday.
