Arts: The St Patrick’s Day Parade-Montreal

Today, across Canada there will be a lot of people sporting something green. It’s to mark St Patrick’s day, and along with it there will be a great many parades especially in big cities across the country.

Listen

Certainly one of the biggest will be in Montreal.

In fact it may also be the world’s longest continuously held St Patrick’s day parade, held every year without missing a year, since 1824.

Literally tens of thousands of people line the route to watch the floats, the dancers, the musicians and marching bands, clowns, and much more.

Of course the weather in March can be quite unpredictable. Parades have been held in conditions ranging from blizzards, to downpours, to summer-like warmth and sunshine.
