One of Canada’s beloved folk music bands was called simply “Stringband”. Co-founder Bob Bossin has been continually touring with his own songs interspersed with the very occasional and much loved Stringband reunions which have occurred over the years.
ListenHis latest venture is a theatrical presentation based on the wild life of his father, who was known in the Toronto neighbourhoods of the 1930’s and 40’s as “Davy the Punk”, involved in the underworld of gambling in the city.
It’s not the first time he embarked on a more theatrical stage presentation having toured internationally a production called “Bob Bossin’s Home Remedy for Nuclear War and Other Ailments”
This time however, he’s going across Canada with a more personally story but one which also many families whose parents, grandparents, or great grandparents can relate to as well.
It’s a tale of newcomers forced to adapt to a new society where doors were often closed to them, and so had to adapt, often in less that legal ways. The story of Davy the Punk is funny but also thought provoking.
