Winter not so wild this year, we hope!

Environment Canada is forecasting an average or warmer than normal winter for most of the country due in part to an El Nino.  This is the name given to the warming of Pacific sea-surface temperatures that occurs every four to 12 years.

“The good news for all Canadians is that there’s no area of significant population where we’re showing colder than normal,” Dave Phillips told CBC News today.

The government ministry’s supercomputer in Montreal sifted the data, and according to Phillips, other than a small area around Lake Superior and part of Nunavut, the winter will be warmer than last year’s — one of the longest and coldest on record.
