The Calgary Stampede is billed as the greatest outdoor show on earth. It certainly is big, and spectacular with all kinds of western and cowboy culture events and shows and entertainment.

One of the big attractions is the chuck wagon race. As you might see in the old Ben Hur Roman centurion races, there are accidents, and usually the horses get hurt, which is a death sentence.

Two more had to be put down at this year’s event and that has angered animal rights activists who have been saying for years, the race should be stopped.

The organization, Street Soccer Canada has been around for over a decade.  Begun by a social housing advocate, it seeks to get the homeless and disadvantaged on outlet through sport to overcome some of their problems and addictions.

The idea begun in Toronto has spread to over 20 cities across Canada.

The initiative is getting ready for its National Championship.  That will lead to a team from Canada to be sent to the Homeless World Caup, to be held in mid-September in Amsterdam

Carmel spoke to Paul Gregory in Toronto, the man who started it all.

For paleontologists, it’s an extremely exciting discovery. After several years of digging in Canada’s western province of Alberta, they’ve re-created the oldest ancestor so far of the the tricerotops family.

Dubbed “Wendiceretops” after Wendy Swoboda, the Canadian paleontologist who discovered it, this new species lived some 13 million years before tricerotops.

It has much more elaborate spike horns all around it’s head shield and is the first indication of a distinctive nose horn.

Marc spoke to Dave Evans  Curator of Vertabrate paleontology at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto where a skeleton of the new dinosaur is on display,
