A sexual assault that was recorded and posted on Facebook has led to the arrest of one woman, and Ottawa police say they are looking for at least two more suspects.
E-mails from around the world
The police say they received e-mails from around the world, and were also contacted by a member of the Ottawa-Congolese community, urging them to investigate the assault, which took place in early July.
Henriette Yakibonge, an Ottawa sexual assault counsellor, told CBC News, she’s been in touch with the victim’s mother and that the alleged attackers are known to the victim.
“The victim is not OK. She’s not eating, she’s not sleeping. she’s crying all the time,” said Yakibonge.
The video begins with an interrogation in a bathroom, when one woman accuses the other of having sex with her boyfriend. Then the victim is pinned down by several women and sexually assaulted with various objects, according to CBC reporters who have seen parts of the video.
The attackers are heard speaking in Lingala, a Bantu language spoken in both Congo-Kinshasa and Congo-Brazzaville. Police did not clarify which of the two African countries the attackers were originally from.
“Her mother is very angry the people who did that to her are friends of hers.” Yakibonge.said.
Eunice Ilunga, 40, is facing eight charges, including kidnapping, assault with a weapon, sexual assault and uttering death threats.
