Comedy Festival’s Ethnic Show a hit

Montreal’s ‘Just for Laughs‘ is the largest international comedy festival in the world. This year it celebrates its 30th anniversary in English and among the many gems and careers it has grown, is The Ethnic Show.

Tonight, tomorrow night and Saturday night, some of the Montreal’s diverse residents and visitors will be taking their seats to laugh at themselves and each other. The show started small and local, but grew as the comedians did.

This year’s edition features Quebec-French mega-star Rachid Badouri, who talks about his hilarious upbringing as a Moroccan raised in Montreal. Frank Spadone, an Italian Canadian describes what it’s like growing up in a household where all the furniture is covered in plastic.

The others on the bill hail from further afield, such Ahmed Ahmed an Arab-American with some very interesting stories and perspectives. Dan Naturman provides his Jewish-American perspective.

And from London, England via Nigerian parents, Gina Yashere provides some cheeky observations from several perspectives.

Ronny Chieng, of Chinese descent, who was born in Malaysia, raised in Singapore and educated in Australia, provides perhaps the most global perspective.
