Your hosts this week are Lynn and Marc.
ListenDr Marc Rodger is a researcher and practitioner at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.
For the last 12 years, Dr. Rodger and his research team took the road less travelled, carrying out a study of blood clots and pregnant women–292 women in 36 countries in five countries.
Going against accepted medical practice and conventional wisdom, Dr. Rodger and his team proved conclusively that conventional practice was just not necessary .
Now pregnant women need no longer give themselves painful daily injections of the anticoagulant low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) to prevent complications caused by placental blood clots.
Terry spoke to Dr Rodger.
Children learn many things in school, but one thing that is not taught, is dealing with personal finances
Adding and subtracting is one thing, but managing money is another matter.
Indeed Canadians actually owe much more than they earn, on average owing one dollar and sixty-five cents for every dollar they earn.
Lynn spoke to Kyle Prevost who has written a book on the subject and who thinks that Canadians spending problems are at least in part due to lack of courses on financial literacy.
Piloting a 90 metre long ship in large ocean waves can be tricky enough. Now try doing it around an expensive oil drilling rig, and trying to offload or onload heavy equipment, or tow the rig, or set the heavy anchors.
Now add in the complexity of say wind, snow, another supply ship helping, and on top of that communication with the other ship(s) and oil platform and you have your hands full.
The ships also have several different engines to control, thrusters and main engines, and winches and crew and it’s a real handful
Now Memorial university in St John’s Newfoundland has a new , unique, ultra sophisticated tool to help train people for these jobs.
Marc spoke with Captain Eben March is an Instructor at the Centre for Marine Simulation , Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University
