It’s often thought of the flat prairie province, with fields of golden wheat. Indeed the provincial coat of arms has three sheaves of wheat in it.

But there’s so much more to this relatively little known province. Oh it has the golden fields of wheat alright, and parts of it are indeed flat to the horizon, but it also has lakes, rivers, boreal forests, sand desert, badlands and more. It’s a tough place weather-wise as well.

It took a special breed of pioneer to settle and develop the province. This has led to a lot of “colourful” and interesting people and facts.

Carson Demmans is a staff lawyer with Legal Aid Saskatchewan, but is also the writer for the three books, along with cartoonist/illustrator friend Jason Sylvestre who says the two met while working together at Legal Aid and found they shared similar interests and had similar tastes in humour.

The book was a hit, leading to a second volume. Carson also was fascinated with the many weird and wonderful trivia facts about the province. That led to the new book “Strange Saskatchewan”.

Although Saskatchewan-based, in almost all cases the jokes and situations  in “IF” are fairly universal, and if not, are readily understood by everyone, while the trivia in Strange Saskatchewan will be interesting to all as well.

Carson says he and Jason are now working on a new book with their publisher MacIntyre Purcell Publishing Inc., on a book of Saskatchewan riddles

The average temperature in Stockholm, Sweden on February 1 from2006-2011 was between minus 3C and minus 1C.  Stockholm is about 600 miles closer to the north pole than  Regina.

ABove Left- Strange Saskatchewan) The most boring playoff game-The Regina Rugby Club was set to play the 1911 Western Semi-final in Winnipeg, but they postponed the trip when the Winnipeg club advised them of bad weather. The Winnipeg club then claimed the win by default. The Regina team went on to win the 1925 Western final when the Saskatoon club was disqualified for not paying its league dues of $25.
