Pokemon Go crashes in Canadian launch

Pokemon Go launched in Canada yesterday, and quickly crased. Until then, Canadians had to employ workabouts to join the global craze. Now Pokemon trainers can download the mobile game to their Android or iOS devices, but it took some quick work on Sunday.

When it was announced on Pokemon’s Twitter page that the game was finally available in Canada Sunday afternoon, the app’s servers were overloaded in the following hour.

Launched in the United States, Australia and New Zealand early in July, the augmented-reality game arrived in 26 European countries last week.

The most downloaded app ever in North America

It sends players out into the real world in search of the little digital pocket monsters, known as Pokemon, who reveal themselves onscreen when users hold up their smartphones in a variety of locations.

Now experts are warning parents about the extremely addictive nature of the game. The stories of crazy behavior as people fall victim to the search, sometimes literally, as happened to two young men in Encinitas,California last week, keep coming. The men, in their early 20’s, fell down a cliff on Wednesday, and sustained minor injuries.

On the positive side of the experience, some experts are also crediting the app with helping people with social anxieties, as the quest may take them out of their homes, often a rare event. Pokemon Go is the most downloaded app in North America.
