Rosie MacLennan: Canada’s flag-bearer at the Olympics in Rio

Rosie MacLennan was the 2012 Olympic gold medallist in trampoline at the London Olympics. Today, at a ceremony on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that she will be the flag-bearer, leading the Canadian team into the opening ceremony in Rio de Janeiro for the Summer Games on August 5th.

Canada has 314 athletes competing in the 2016 summer Olympic Games. MacLennan has won 14 World Championship medals over her career; the sport has been in the family for a couple of generations now. Her grandfather qualified as a gymnast for the 1940 games in Tokyo, Japan. They were cancelled, however, due to World War II.

These will be the third Olympics for the 27-year-old from King City, Ontario.
