Saumon Quebec is inviting more women to try salmon fishing, and the organisation is having some success.
Their new website, RoseSaumon.com, is aimed at women, encouraging them, and explaining to them, how to give the sport and the pastime a try.
…it was meditative but I felt focused”
In an interview with Radio-Canada, Florent Garnerot, director general of Saumon Quebec, said, “More and more women are fishing to live a unique experience that other sports can’t match,” he said, “They want adventure in the great outdoors, which will make them feel connected to nature.”
Salmon fishing doesn’t take a big investment up front: licenses are less than $50 (Cdn) and women can rent equipment to try it out. And of course, the catch, makes for some delicious meals!
“The scenery is so relaxing and pleasant that we don’t even really have a choice but to be calm”
Nathalie Beaulieu said she had no interest until a recent fishing trip to Rimouski, Quebec. “I was surprised to find myself in contact with nature… it was meditative but I felt focused. My focus was about more than catching a fish. It was to live an experience, an emotion.”
On the SaumonRose website women are sharing their experiences. A woman named Magali described salmon fishing as a great way to decompress.
“The scenery is so relaxing and pleasant that we don’t even really have a choice but to be calm” Magali wrote.
