Inside Arctic Nursing
Last year we shot a short film “Caring for our People: Inside Arctic Nursing” with Inuk nurse Minnie Akparook from Nunavik, Canada.
In it, Ms Akparook talks candidly about the obstacles she overcame to become a nurse and about the challenges of delivering health care in the Arctic.
The feedback from viewers, especially from those working in health care and from Inuit, Métis and First Nations women, was overwhelming.
This week, the Center for Climate and Health at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium in Anchorage, Alaska listed “Caring for our People: Inside Arctic Nursing” as their video of the week.
Here’s what they said in their newsletter: “Across the Arctic local nurses are in great demand. This insightful 12-minute film is an interview with Minnie Akparook, an Inuk nurse from Nunavik, Canada about overcoming career and health obstacles in her life and in Arctic Canada.”
