Northern Sweden hit by flooding

Police in Västernorrland County in the North of Sweden have called in reinforcements for some areas to help combat the effects of widespread flooding.
In the town of Västmarkum, 130 mm of rain has fallen since Monday. The Home Guard has been called out to Kramfors to help emergency services build a wall of sandbags by the banks of Lake Gröss.
The heavy rains have forced several road closures, including a stretch of road between Hållsätter and Kärr, north of Kramfors. The Swedish Transport Administration has warned train travellers that traffic has stopped along the Ådalsbanan line in Dynäs, because of flooding, and will not open again until the morning, at the earliest.
Kramfors has been hardest hit by the torrential rain and the water level of Grössjön has risen dramtically in a short period.
“During the night, the water rose 60 centimetres, upto to our first crisis meeting at lunctime and has continued to rise,” says council press officer Peter Carlstedt to allehanda.se.
The rain front is expected to move further north, bringing the risk of further flooding on Friday and Saturday.
