The bitter cold in northern Sweden has meant that local train operators have been forced to cancel several departures between Luleå and Kiruna this morning.

Buses have been brought in to replace the trains.

“The compressors which make sure that the air supply works in the trains have trouble dealing with temperatures can’t take the extreme cold, once it gets below minus 25 degrees Celsius”, Norrtåg spokesperson Ulrika Andreasson told Swedish Radio News.

Temperatures were down to around minus 32 degrees in Arctic city of  Gällivare this morning.
