Less than a third of Finns support Fennovoima nuclear plant
Only 29 percent of Finns surveyed by economic researcher Taloustutkimus are in favour of granting building permission for the controversial Pyhäjoki nuclear power plant.
Over half of respondents do not think the government should rubber stamp the project. Half – in fact, 51 percent – of the Finnish public does not want planning permission to be granted for the construction of the Fennovoima nuclear power plant in Pyhäjoki, according to a Taloustutkimus survey commissioned by environmental group WWF.
Only 29 per cent of respondents were happy for the plant to go ahead, while one-fifth chose to sit on the fence, stating no opinion either way. Respondents were asked: “Do you think the government should grant building permission for the current Fennovoima nuclear power plant project?” The options were “yes,” “no” or “I couldn’t say”. A total of 1,056 people were interviewed for the poll. Its margin of error is 2.5 percent in either direction, with a confidence level of 95 percent.
