Eye on the Arctic has been named as a finalist at the 2022 Canadian Online Publishing Awards (COPA) in the Best Investigative Article or Series category, Media section, for its report “Arctic Security: Will Canada’s federal budget deliver for NORAD?”, the awards organizers announced this month.

In “Arctic Security: Will Canada’s federal budget deliver for NORAD?”, Eye on the Arctic journalist Eilís Quinn looks at Canada’s lag in modernizing its aerospace and maritime warning infrastructure in the North, even has Beijing and Moscow continue to invest heavily in the region and Russia’s attack in Ukraine has transformed the global security picture.

Eye on the Arctic joins four other nominees in the same category: CBC North, PressProgress, The Discourse and the West End Phoenix.

The winners will be announced in February 2023 during an awards ceremony in Toronto.

Established in 2009, the COPAs “bring together all the media brands and companies that are producing content online,” says their website.

Entries are reviewed by a panel of experts from various fields.

Masthead Magazines, which produces the awards, is based in Ontario, in southern Canada.
