Reindeer found with ears cut off — investigated as possible hate crime

  • A reindeer was found badly injured in the Idre Sami community’s herding area, with both ears cut off and a deep cut to its throat.
  • The animal had to be put down and police are investigating animal cruelty, including whether the incident could be a hate crime against Sami people or reindeer herders.
  • Peter Andersson, chair of Idre Sami community, tells Swedish Radio P4 Dalarna he has never seen anything like it and hopes it was a one-off.
