About 3,500 people formed a giant “living” Canadian flag in the central city of Winnipeg yesterday by donning red or white T-shirts and gathering outside the provincial legislature.
Winnipeg has won the title for having the largest flag for the last two years and participants hope yesterday’s turnout was big enough for the city to retain the title.
“Oh, I want to show my colours, that I am a very proud Canadian, because it’s afforded me a very comfortable life,” said participant Maralie White, who came to Canada from Jamaica 40 years ago.
Other cities competing were Victoria on the Pacific coast, the nation’s capital Ottawa and Calgary in western Canada.
