Marijuana in your coffee?

CannTrust, a Canadian medical cannabis producer, is ready with its single-serve marijuana pod, called the ‘CANNCUP’.  But these capsules of coffee, tea or hot chocolate will have a little extra, in the form of dried cannabis.

CannTrust CEO Eric Paul, a pharmacist, says it is a “standardized dose of medical marijuana” that is now availalbe for a single-serve coffee machine.

The Vaughan, Ontario company is awaiting approval, after applying for a licence to produce and sell the pods to Canadian medical marijuana users.

Until recently edible medical marijauna products were banned. The Supreme Court of Canada ruled in June, however, that patients were not limited to smoking the drug.

Health Canada subsequently allowed the sale of fresh buds and leaves and cannabis oil, but has not yet granted permission for pot-infused edibles such as desert and coffee.

With a new government in Ottawa, Eric Paul is optimistic. He says it is a more socially acceptable way to consume marijuana. “You could use it at work, at home, or in public areas,” he says. “As a pharmacist, how could I condone smoking? I’m a health-care person,”
