Celine Dion returns to the stage

Celine Dion returned to The Colosseum stage at Ceasar’s Palace in Los Vegas last night. It was the first show since the death of her husband and former manager, Rene Angelil at 74, on January 14th.

“I understood that my career was his masterpiece”

The night began with a tribute to Angelil that featured photos and video footage of him through his life. “I understood that my career was his masterpiece…”  was the beginning of a quote by the 47 year-old, the best-selling female artist ever. The full house rose in a minute-long ovation when the Quebecois singer completed her opening number, With One More Look at You, a hit for Barbra Streisand from the A Star is Born.

After an emotional thank you to the audience, during which Dion shared that she feels Rene’s presence, she concluded by saying, “and now he’s telling me to zip it, and start singing!”

Celine Dion was in fine form, in a black sequined gown, her voice as powerful as ever, but later in the show, a rendition of All By Myself, was a challenge that brought tears.

Dion will perform for another two weeks, then again in May and June as she moves toward her 1,000th performance at The Colosseum. Her first show, in the venue built for her, was on March 25, 2003.

This summer Celine Dion will perform in Belguim and France as well as a homecoming of several shows in both Montreal and Quebec City.
