Montreal bomb scares disrupt rush hour traffic

Commuters above and below ground were inconvenienced in Montreal this morning due to a suspicious package left outside a busy metro station.

The metro line remained in operation but the trains did not stop at the station  which connects two major downtown lines.  Instead, passengers had to get out and walk in one direction or another to connect to the other line and continue their trip.

Walking was the fastest mode of transport as a large area around the station had been cordoned-off and cars were bumper to bumper making slow progress for blocks in all directions.

This was the second bomb scare in 24 hours in Montreal.  During yesterday’s afternoon rush-hour, traffic was detoured and delayed on the western end of the island, after an abandoned or forgotten brief case was discovered at a gas station.

These two incidents are the result of heightened security in Canada following the explosions in Boston at the finish-line of that city’s legendary marathon.
