Canadians contaminated with BPA and lead

Most Canadians have the chemical bisphenol A in their urine and all have traces of lead in their blood, according to a government study of 2009-2010. BPA comes from plastic and it’s not known what effect it has on the human body. 95 percent of Canadians have it in their urine. Children have the highest concentration. Adults over 60 have the lowest. The figures have not changed much from a study of 2007-2009.

Blood-lead levels have been dropping. The current average lead level for six- to 79 year-olds is about 11 per cent. Lead is harmful, especially to children. But these levels are below the threshold which requires treatment.
