A staff sergeant in Canada’s iconic Royal Canadian Mounted Police has launched a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against 13 former colleagues for harassment and sexual assault in the 1980s.
When she was a member of the renown Musical Ride travelling equestrian show, Caroline O’Farrell alleges she was subjected to a hazing ritual in which she was doused with water and then dragged through stall shavings mixed with manure an urine.
In seeking more than $8 million in damages she alleges she was subjected to this and other abuse because she was a woman. Further, she alleges that when she complained and defended herself she was harassed by her attackers for doing so.

The claim states she was transferred out of the unit “against her will” because supervisors “couldn’t guarantee her safety,” and that an RCMP harassment investigation upheld her complaints.
This was one of many complaints of harassment filed by women in the RCMP.
