Fake farm masks underground marijuana grow-op

Five shipping containers modified to cultivate pot plants have been discovered underground by police on Saturday in the western province of British Columbia. Growing pot plants is illegal in Canada and there appears to be no limit to the lengths people will go to mask this lucrative enterprise.

“Each of the steel shipping containers had a doorway cut through it to make a continuous pathway that connected all of the containers, as well as raised walkways so workers could easily walk through the bunker from container to container,” said Sgt. Lindsey Houghton of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit in Langley, BC.

To power the Langley grow-op, a nearby natural gas pipeline had been cut into and a bypass installed to direct gas to an industrial-sized generator worth about $100,000, he added.

A small hobby farm complete with three sheep and a pig were above the underground grow-op.

Three men and a woman were arrested on the scene. 430 plants were found and the operation is thought to be linked to the Hells Angels motorcycle gang.

Another grow-op was found under a horse paddock in Mission, B.C. last month. But police do not think the two operations were connected.
