A rule banning children from wearing turbans on the playing field has garnered a suspension of the soccer federation in the province of Quebec. The Canadian Soccer Association announced its Quebec counterpart will be suspended until the ban is overturned.
Sikh children and youth wearing head gear required by their religion have not been allowed on the field to play in Quebec. The provincial federation cited safety reasons although it was not able to cite any case of injury caused by head coverings.
Suggesting turban-wearers play in their own back yards instead of in official games earned the Quebec Soccer Federation more scathing criticism from the public.
