Joni Mitchell gives rare performance at tribute

Iconic Canadian folk singer Joni Mitchell surprised an adoring audience at a tribute for her Tuesday by kicking off her shoes to sing some songs, tell some stories and sway to the music. The event to mark her 70th birthday was part of the Luminato arts festival in Toronto.

“Tonight I must say I feel greatly honoured,” said Mitchell, who rarely makes appearances and hasn’t toured since 2000. “I wasn’t sure if I could sing tonight. I’m still not sure, but I’m going to try.” Mitchell has had health problems.

And yes, she did sing “Big Yellow Taxi” to the delight of the crowd.
