Street food back in Montreal after 66 year ban

Food, served on the street from trucks is now available in Montreal in 9 locations from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.  it’s part of a pilot project that will run until September 29th.

The locations were chosen to avoid competing with restaurants, but,  to qualify for a permit, the vendors are required to have an established restaurant or catering business.

Montrealer, Liilian Boctor thinks that’s not fair.  “It’s a disappointment because it would have been good for people who are great cooks.”

But these food trucks won’t be serving hot dogs.  Is it only in Montreal you can now treat yourself to delights such as a Nutella, peanut butter, and bacon grilled sandwich?  Or how about a crispy pork belly taco served with apple slaw?

Street food was banned in 1947 for reasons of sanitation.  But a lot has changed in 66 years.  Now try a crepe stuffed with chorizo, goat cheese or spinach?  Welcome to Montreal.
