The body of 32 year-old Lisa Gibson was pulled from the Red River in the western city of Winnipeg over the weekend. This came two days after the failure of attempts to revive her two young children found in the family bathtub.
Postpartum mental health problems may have been a factor in the deaths and are being investigated by police. Some mothers develop depression or psychosis after giving birth.
An inquest could help Canadians to better understand mental health issues like this said Chris Summerville, head of the Schizophrenia Society of Canada.
It’s not yet known whether such an inquiry will be held.
