Vancouver and Olympic athletes support gays

Canada’s western city of Vancouver painted some crosswalks in rainbow colours and two Olympic athletes marched in Sunday’s pride parade in support of the LGBT community. Last week was Pride Week in Vancouver and news of Russia’s ongoing crackdown on gays spurred more people to take part in pride events.

Gay couples staged a “kiss-in” in front of the Russian consulate on Friday and there have been vigorous debates about whether there should be a boycott of the Olympic Games in Sochi.

There is not likely to be an all out boycott of the games but other forms of protest are under consideration.
